Biography

Sandra Hultsved is a self-taught artist, born 1989 in Sweden. She started to create art to escape the dark reality – a world in decay, of loneliness and melancholy. Like a form of therapy to express her innermost feelings that she could not express in any other way.

Her idea that lead to this exhibition started with the portrait with the Deadly Nightshade-flower, depicted being held by the girl in the portrait. Where the poisonous flower is a metaphor for love, how it weights between being the most beautiful thing in the world and of being the most painful thing. Sometimes it can feel like you love someone so much, that the love itself could poison you, maybe even to death.

The artworks also show a deeper insight of the psyche, how one’s own mind could drive you so far towards the edge, when it comes to love, but also in life itself.

Sandra mainly uses graphite pencils and ink, creating a unique style of drawing and painting fused together. Also oil paint is used, but on its own. Nature – particularly the forests of Värmland, where she grew up, is always a huge source of inspiration. The forest is her safe haven to which she flees to endure a little bit longer. The same goes for her art.
